Kinexx Modular Construction has installed Chicago’s first two-unit prefabricated home in East Garfield Park.

The two units are back-to-back (rather than one over the other), writes Chicago Cityscape’s Steven Vance , who reported on the project in a March 9 blog post.

“Like Kinexx’s other modular houses, the building was erected and weathertight in two days,” Vance wrote.

“We started at 7 a.m. on Monday morning and the entire structure was erected by 2 p.m. on Tuesday,” he quoted Kinexx CEO Josh Braun as saying. The roof was added on Wednesday and the next day, ComEd turned on electricity.

The approximately $245,000 townhouses are part of the Harrison Row project, built by Fain’s Development and Structured Development . They have about 1,500 sq. ft. per unit.

In an earlier statement, Structured Development said  33 new three-bedroom, 1.5-bath townhomes will be constructed, including 14 duplex townhomes, or 28 units, built using modular construction.
